Our experienced in-house laboratory team conducts thorough testing in line with EN 15426:2018 and UK General Product Safety Regulations to meticulously analyse your candles, determining if they meet all aspects of the sooting behaviour standard.

Please note that this test is exclusively for single-wick indoor candles of a maximum net weight of 250g and a maximum diameter of 100mm. For larger candles, please contact customer service at support@candle-shack.co.uk.
Test procedure
We conduct testing in accordance with EN 154426:2018 to verify that your candles comply with the EN Specification For Sooting Behaviour, in compliance with the UK General Product Safety Regulation. To meet the standard, your candles must have an average soot index per hour of less than 1.0.
Please note that there is currently no soot test standard for multi-wick candles.
Requirements
To conduct the Candle Soot Test, we require the following:
- 3 finished identical single-wick indoor candles with a maximum net weight (ie. weight of the fragranced wax excluding the weight of the vessel) of 250g and a maximum diameter of 100mm of the same type (ie. the candles should be made according to the same recipe with the same ingredients and have the same SKU).
- A minimum of one of the candles should be packaged as sold, including any usage instructions and/or labels. If the packaging is unavailable at the time of testing, kindly provide the usage instructions that will be supplied with the candles.
- If usage instructions are not provided, we will not trim the wick(s) during testing.
- For single-wick candles of a net weight above 250g, please contact customer service at support@candle-shack.co.uk
- A completed Candle Safety Testing Form
- Please ensure that the form is fully completed and that all provided information is accurate.
- An administration fee of £10+VAT per test will apply for any amendment to the Candle Safety Testing Form.
Please send your 3 candles and the completed Candle Safety Testing Form in one parcel addressed to the below:

Test duration and report
Conducting the Candle Soot Test and compiling the results will take 7 working days from the receipt of the candles and completed Candle Safety Testing Form. Once complete, a PDF test report will be emailed to the provided email address outlining the test results.
Please note that delays will be incurred if the Candle Safety Form is not fully completed or contains incorrect information.
Cost
The Candle Soot Test costs £115.50+VAT per type of candle (ie. candle SKU) of a maximum of net weight of 250g. The shipping of the required 3 identical candles and completed Candle Safety Testing Form to Candle Shack is not included and is at your charge. A £10 administrative fee will be applied in addition to the test cost for any required change to the Candle Safety Testing Form.
Please contact our customer service team for testing single-wick candles of a net weight superior to 250g or a diameter larger than 100mm.
