Candle Boxes

The best approach is to use a box made specifically for the jar you are using. A close-fit box needs no internal padding to prevent movement and gives a cleaner, more professional result. If you are using Candle Shack jars, there are boxes sized to fit them directly. A slightly larger box gives more latitude to add tissue paper or other presentation packaging, but a well-fitted box is always preferable if you can get one. This matters especially for postal transit, where any movement inside the box increases the risk of breakage.

Retail gift boxes prioritise appearance, surface quality and the unboxing experience - they are designed for the end customer to open. Postal boxes prioritise protection during shipping, typically in plain sturdy cardboard that goes inside a shipping mailer or outer carton. Some boxes serve both purposes, but it is worth being clear about the primary use case before ordering volume, as a box optimised for retail display is unlikely to survive direct postal transit on its own.

Most standard retail candle boxes are not rated for direct postal delivery without additional protection. The reliable approach is a standard candle box inside a padded mailer or double-wall outer. If you need postal-rated primary packaging, look for double-wall or postal-specification boxes and always test your heaviest candle before committing to production quantities.

It depends on the box. Standard stock boxes are supplied flat-packed without inserts. Candle Shack's luxury folding boxes include an e-fluted liner - the same construction used in most premium perfume packaging - which provides protection and a quality feel without a separate insert. For additional presentation, tissue paper, crinkle fill and printed card inserts are sourced separately and added at packing. Vacuum-formed inserts and platform trays are also available in the wider packaging market if you need a more engineered solution, though these typically come from specialist packaging suppliers.

The most common approaches are adhesive labels, stickers, stamps or printed tissue at any quantity. A particularly efficient option is a printed sleeve - a wrap that fits over a standard box, adding branding and CLP information without replacing the box itself. Sleeves can be printed at relatively low cost and short runs, which lets you buy the inner box in bulk while running seasonal variations or experimenting with different designs without committing to a full reprint of the box. Custom fully-printed boxes are also an option but typically require substantially higher minimum quantities and longer lead times.

The clearest credential is recyclability - standard uncoated cardboard is kerbside-recyclable by the end customer without any special facilities. The main thing to avoid is laminates or foil finishes, which make cardboard non-recyclable at standard facilities. If sustainability matters to your brand, state the specific credentials clearly on or with the packaging - vague eco claims without supporting detail carry limited weight with consumers.
